When you send information across the internet, an e-mail for example, it costs the same whether you send it to your next door neighbor or to the other side of the world. Internet Telephone works the same way.

VOIP transforms your phone conversation into digital data "packages" and sends them over the internet much the same way as e-mail data is sent. The packages are sent in real time, which means that they are delivered instantly, with no delay. Data packages are sent two-ways, allowing for instantaneous conversations -- no different from the telephone service we have all been used to. The main difference is the cost. VOIP is very inexpensive.

VOIP requires broadband internet service, such as a cable modem, DSL or Wireless service. You will also need a special "box" that attaches to your computer's Ethernet port or just a broadband modem and, of course, your regular telephone. There is a simple set up that takes only minutes to complete and then you're ready to make and receive calls - anywhere and any time.
